AchievementsTwenty years ago, when Birthright Israel was launched, there was a crisis in the Jewish world – Jews in the diaspora were steadily drifting away from their heritage, their traditions and their community. The program that began as an experiment has been extraordinarily successful; it is enhancing the vibrancy of Jewish life in countries around the globe. Since its inception in December 1999, over 800,000 participants took part in Birthright Israel, more than 115,000 of which are Israelis. They come from 68 countries including all 50 U.S states, Canadian provinces, and nearly 1,000 North American colleges and universities. 80% Of participants consider Birthright Israel a life-changing experience – an approval rate any brand would envy. Birthright Israel programs have contributed $1.5 billion to the Israeli economy. Since Birthright Israel’s inception, the Maurice and Marilyn Cohen Center for Modern Jewish Studies (CMJS) at Brandeis University has conducted rigorous research to evaluate the program and learn about its impact on the current generation of Jewish young adults. The evidence from the Brandeis studies indicates that participation in Birthright Israel positively alters participants’ trajectory of Jewish engagement and connection to Israel. As such, you will be living in a communal environment. We understand that you might want to room with your significant other of the opposite sex, however, single-sex rooms are the standard across Birthright Israel trips. This is to ensure a comfortable night’s stay for all our participants. You’ll sleep in a dormitory or share living quarters with many other people and eat in communal dining facilities. You’ll also share transportation (a tour bus) with up to 50* other people. *Subject to change due to COVID-19 restrictions and guidelines.
-

-
Am I allowed to join the group in Israel?Under special circumstances, it is possible to make such a request. In case this is something that would be required, and we are able to accommodate it, it is important to underline the conditions of it; -Participants would need to let us know at least 70 days before the departure date. -Participants would need to meet the group at Ben Gurion exactly when they land, and be in touch with their staff team members from the moment they depart, and upon landing. -You would be responsible for both flights to AND from Israel.
-
What’s the policy regarding sexual conduct on Tailor Made Birthright Israel? We have a zero-tolerance policy towards harassment of any kind and promote a communal space of physical and emotional safety.
-
I did not get on the trip in the previous season, can I be granted a spot in the future season(s)?In case you didn't get on a trip, you will be notified when registration opens for the next season but there is no priority for waitlisted participants from previous seasons. We try to make room for everyone!

-

An on-call doctor and local hospitals are also always available. In extreme situations, participants will be transferred to another city for specialized medical treatment when necessary and, where indicated, will later be returned to the country of origin for further treatment. You’re responsible for having personal medical insurance coverage. It must be valid in Israel throughout the period covered by the trip. (If you don’t have medical insurance and are purchasing travel/medical insurance for the sole purpose of this trip, you might want to consider supplementary coverage for continuation of treatment/care in your home country if required when you return home).
-
What airport will my trip leave from? Most U.S. trips depart from New York area airports unless otherwise indicated. Canadian trips depart from Toronto’s Pearson International Airport.
-
I am in Israel already how can I adjust my flight? Please check this link to contact your travel agent
-
What do you mean when you say that Israeli peers will be joining us?One of the highlights of the trip is the multi-day Mifgash (encounter) with your Israeli peers. What better way to experience Israel than through the eyes of its locals? You’ll have an incredible opportunity to meet and travel with Israelis of the same age, many of whom are serving in the Israel Defense Forces. Together, you and your new Israeli friends will explore your views about personal, religious, and political identities and ideologies.
-
Who will I travel with? You’ll be exploring Israel with 40* other Jewish participants. Of course, your trip wouldn’t be complete without the two staff members (called madrichim) who fly with the group, one Israeli tour educator, an Israeli medic/security guard, and the bus driver, who will help you make the most of your adventure. You’ll also have the opportunity to meet Israeli locals who will join you for a portion of the trip. We like to bring a range of participants from different places across the country, so you can make new friends you wouldn’t have otherwise had the chance to meet. And after 10 full days of bonding in Israel, you’ll feel more like one big family than friends. Many of our participants stay in touch long after the trip ends. If you prefer not to go solo, you can request to travel with friends and family members. *Subject to change due to COVID-19 restrictions and guidelines.
-
What sort of physical activity can I expect?Pack your hiking boots and swimsuit! -

-

The Situation Monitoring Room works closely with Israel’s security forces including the IDF, Israel Policy, and local security and reservation authorities.
-
Once we’re in Israel, will we have to travel or get around on our own?Throughout the trip, you will be traveling in a group setting. At times, groups are provided with independent time to explore the area on their own. This usually takes place during scheduled lunch times, scheduled self exploration segments (exploring a central area within city limits on own) and scheduled night outs. All scheduled independent times are set to take place on foot. During scheduled night out, you will also be invited to use taxis if needed within predetermined city limits. During the above independent times, the Tour Educator, staff from country of origin and security guard will be available for all your needs, but they won’t necessarily be with you physically.
-

Please note: Applications don’t carry over from season to season. If you wish to apply again, you’ll need to submit a new application when registration for that round opens.
-
When will I receive my 1on1 phone call?Submitting an application does not instantly mean you have secured a spot on the trip, unfortunately. Once you have received a trip offer, and have accepted it, one of our team members will reach out in order to schedule a 1on1 phone call.
-
I have not received a trip offer, what does that mean? The seasons have become more demanding with more interest and less spots available. In case you didn't get a trip offer you can reach out to our office on info@israeltm.com in order to find out the status of your application. In case there are no spots available we will place you on the waiting list.
-
I think I completed the application. What now?Once you’ve filled out all the sections of the application, if there is any information that you wish to update or change, you may access your application until the registration deadline for that season. Keep in mind that any changes you make will be what Tailor Made Birthright Israel considers your final application. Now sit back, relax, and be patient. Tailor Made will contact you as soon as we have an available trip to offer you.
-

-
What if I don’t yet have a passport? If you don’t already have a passport, we recommend that you begin the process to obtain one as soon as possible. You’ll be required to provide us with your passport number and a photocopy of your passport before Tailor Made Birthright Israel issues your flight ticket. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your last day in Israel. If you realize after the cancellation deadline and after being assigned to a flight that this is not the case, Tailor Made Birthright Israel may cancel your trip without refunding your deposit if you’re unable to obtain a new passport in a designated amount of time before the trip.
-
What if I don’t need my return ticket back to my home country? If you decide to forfeit your return ticket, and you know this before you leave please contact info@israeltm.com - you must contact the airline before your scheduled return date. If you fail to do so and are a no-show for the scheduled departure, you’ll forfeit the deposit held for your trip. If you want to cancel and you're already in Israel then you need to contact your travel agent See the exact details here : https://www.birthrightisrael.com/extend/returnticket
-
How can I ensure I’m on a trip with my friends/family?The only way for friends/family (or groups of people) to be on the same program is to apply for the same trip. You can invite friends to join you on your trip by using your personal “Bring a Friend” referral link and sharing it with them by email or on social media. Find your link in the My Trip section of your application. Tailor Made Birthright Israel cannot guarantee that any one person or group of individuals will be selected. But, applying for the same trip can ensure that you and your friends get to travel together if all of you are selected.
-
What if the name I entered when I applied has changed or is spelled wrong?Airline tickets are issued based on the first, middle, and last name that you put on your application, which must match the full name on your passport. If there’s a discrepancy, the airline has the right to deny you passage or charge to reissue the ticket (in which case you may need to forfeit your deposit). If you entered your name incorrectly or changed your name, send us an email at info@israeltm.com.
-
When and how will I get the deposit back?Upon returning home from your trip, you can either claim or donate your refundable 360 USD (450 CAD) deposit. Many participants choose to donate their deposit to help others experience this once-in-a-lifetime adventure. If you do choose to donate, we have an anonymous donor that will match every trip deposit donation dollar for dollar. This covers two full days of the trip for a new participant!
-
I’m having a problem with my deposit. What should I do?Deposits are paid, handled, and refunded through the secure online payment system. If you’re having trouble making your deposit, send an e-mail to info@israeltm.com with the word DEPOSIT in the subject line and explain what the issue is.
-
I wasn’t offered a trip. I want to cancel my application and get my deposit back. How do I do this?If you weren’t offered a trip this round, you’re automatically placed on a waitlist until the end of the season. If you’d like to be taken off the waitlist and get your deposit back, please send a refund request IN WRITING via email directly to info@israeltm.com. It will take between 7 and 10 days for the refund to appear via your original method of payment.
-

-
What are the payment methods I can pay with?Deposits are paid and handled through a secure online payment system (PayPal). We accept international credit cards and debit cards. There is no option to use wire transfer, cash or checks.
-
What is the deposit for?Due to the limited number of spots on each trip, we need to ensure that all chosen participants will show up. When an applicant pays the 360 USD (450 CAD) deposit, this lets us know that you’re serious about traveling with Tailor Made Birthright Israel and covers any fees that we might incur in the event of a late cancellation. It also helps guarantee that you follow Birthright Israel safety and behavior standards. In extreme cases in which participants violate these guidelines, their deposit may be confiscated.

Please understand availability for date changes can become very limited or even nonexistent during peak summer.
